This Week in Science #14

This week in Science was very fun. We didn't do much because we are reaching the ending of the year. Since we are reaching the end of the year David gave the whole cohort5 the oppertunity to make up work we didn't do or have to boost our grades up. I am trying to stay in the range of an A but it gets hard toward the end or the year.

What I learned this week in science is about the HIPPO dilemma. HIPPO dilemma is basically about how keeping the enviornment green. It was teaching us on how to save energy because we are running out of natural resources. On the bottom is a picture of how to keep the enviornment green.

TWIS # 15 Milestone

This week in Science I did something that I didn't think I would have to do again. What my class mates and I  did was the marshmellow challenge with the same people we did the challenge with back in November. YES ! November! And we are in June! The people who were in my group for the challenge was NayQuan,Christin,Zaria, and I. Doing the marshmellow challenge again for the second time around was fun. It was fun because we did it timed the first time, and we had to make the marshmellow stand straight and tall with out falling. We did this with spagetti sticks, tape and a paper brown bag(if you wanted to use the bag). My team and I only got the marshmellow to hold up for like 1 minute. When we did the challenge back in November my group's cenemiter of holding it straight and tall was 79. When we did it this time in June, it was 67. I think it was 67 because if the time limit we had this time. Then, we did the challenge again, but we didn't messure it because we was just doing it for fun.

What I learned about working with the same group I worked with in November was that people can change. Back in November, my whole entire group was cool with eachother. You know, every one in our group was talking, bonding and what not. When we did the marshmellow challenge again, every one in my group wasn't as cool. I mean nothing happend, no body disrespected anybody. But we didn't connect as we did back in November. BUT, when it came to putting our marshmellow in a way in can stay steady with out falling, my group was on point. We bonded like old times in November, even twice as better. We bonded twice as better because we knew we wanted our marshmellow tower to not only look better than everyone else's, but to stand so it wouldn't fall. What I learned also was that, my group and I realized,we shouldn't have the marshmellow stand up the way we had it standing last time in November. So what we did was come up with a way we can learn to hold up the marshmellow without it falling. I learned if we would of did what we did fir the challenge in November, in November our marshmellow would have stood up straight by itself. But, now we learned in June how to keep it steady with out falling. What we did differently from June to Novembers tower was.. we taped our spagetti sticks down to the desk, so they can stay with out breaking, taped sticks on top of sticks tightly. We then put our marshmellow and it stood! This marshmellow challange was better than last times marshmellow challenge.

In this picture we couldn't talk so we was writing on post-its to show what we wanted to do to make our marshmellow stand straight.

In this picture it shows ME trying to keep the marshmellow from falling :-)

In this picture right here, this is my favorite one and I choose it last so it can show how focused my whole group was in trying to make our marshmellow tower not collapse.

This Week in Science #12

This week in Science we did a lot of working. On Monday, we watched a video of how spiders trap their food before they eat it. On Tuesday, David showed us how to make a log book. The book is called "Spider Observation". The book log is something that we write in every day about a new word that can connect to our spider, and we draw a picture on how to explain that word.Spider Observation will also help us understand our new words we been stuyding because we get to write about the words on our OWN words. We will be working on the book for the rest f the week. On Wednesday, we fed our spiders fruit-flies, so it can have something to eat. On Thursday we don't have science. On Friday we didn't do anything because it was Jamies last day:( BOOOOOOO !!!! So instead, david ordered some papa Johns, and we just kicked back and enjoyed our moments with Jamie.

What I learned was how a spider can have energy in many ways. For example: Gluecose is a certain plant that has oxygen in it, so it allows the spider to have oxygen. I also learned making your book can be a lot of hard work, because you need to have the right picture to match  your word. We really didn'y do much this week, but I know we will continue to keep learning because its only the beginging that we started studying about pur spiders.

This Week In Science #13

I choose question B(If we were to add five more spiders to your spider habitat tank, what would happen? And why? Use these terms in your explanation: glucose, photosynthesis, energy, carbon dioxide, oxygen.)

What would happen is the spiders will die. I personally think the spiders will die because only one spider is living off of oxygen by itself, and if we put more spiders not all of them can live off one plant of oxygen. In this picture it shows how the Sun of Energy gives the spider energy to survive. It also shows how the gluecose gives oxygen because it is a plant.

TWIS #11

This week in Science we did a lot of things this week. On monday, it was our first day back from spring break. So David was just welcoming us back and explaining what we will be doing this week. On Monday we also asked questions on a post-it on ecosystem. David had a new vocabulary word on each poster. For ex: Ecosystem, Carbon cycle, Water cycle, Plant cell, Food chain, Producer, Photocynthesis. All these science vocabulary words, we had to ask questions on what we thought they ment. On Tuesday, we went to seward park. We went to seward park because we are getting spiders next week, and we wanted to put items in our tank for the spider,to see how we cn keep it alive with these certain items. My group and I put a log in, flowers, leaves and water. Our spider is going to live off these items in our tank. We also took pictures of things that what we think is part of an ecosystem. My group took pictures of grass, water, the slides in the park, and trees. All these things are apart of the ecosystem because it is apart of nature. On Wednsday, we put our pictures up on google docs, and wrote about how the picture was apart of ecosystem. We didn't have Science on Thrusday. And today is Friday, and we just got through our first week of being back from brea, writing about what we did :).

This is a picture I took in seward park. It represents ecosystem because it has nature.

We didn't really learn much this week, because we just got back from break.  I learned ecosystem has a lot to do with nature. Another idea  I  learned was that we  are going to be dealing with spiders which is cool, and we are going to see how long they can survive with our tank. I am still unsure about ecosystems. Even though I know it is apart of nature, I don't know what the word it self means  but I am positive these next few weeks will help me understand it more. I can't wait to deal with the spiders, and see how long it survives with the tank we got built up for it !!
